Announcing Call for Proposals and Ticket Sales

Today we are announcing our Call for Proposals and ticket sales.

Due to the continuing global pandemic, we are keeping the Australia and India conference online this year as well. The conference will be held on December 2-3, 2021. The Call for Proposals will be open for two months. We know that it hasn’t been an easy year. Nevertheless, we’d love to see you on our online stage in December, to share your ideas with our inspiring community of documentarians.

If there is something you’d really like to see a talk about this year, submit a proposal for it or refer someone else who would be good!

Every year, Write the Docs invites people from all across our community to come up on stage to share their insights and experience. We’re looking for ideas and use-cases from all disciplines and roles, so whether you’re a technical writer, editor, developer, UX designer, community manager, or support professional who cares about content and communication, we want to hear from you!

We’re hoping that folks who would not be able to travel will be able to join us this time round, both as attendees and as speakers! If you’ve always wanted to talk about documentation but not been able to travel for whatever reason, now is the time.

Tickets are now on sale! Take a look at the new prices for the online conference on our Tickets page. We have made it even more affordable for students and unemployed documentarians to be a part of this conference this year.

Opportunity Grants

Our grant program offers tickets to people who would otherwise not be able to attend. We’re excited to be able to offer free tickets to a larger number of people this year, since there are now minimal other costs to attend the event.

G’day and welcome to the official launch of Write the Docs Australia and India 2021, our sixth virtual conference. We have been tuning our approach to these events since our first virtual event in August 2020, and are happy to invite you back to our online space. Similar to 2020, we are partnering with Write the Docs India for 2 days of Asia Pacific documentation goodness!

We’re excited to announce the dates for our next conference: Write the Docs Australia and India 2021 will be on December 2-3, 2021

This is another virtual conference, which means you can attend, speak or have a sponsor presence from anywhere in the world. The conference will take place during day time in AEDT.

We’re looking for ideas and use-cases from all disciplines and roles, so whether you’re a technical writer, developer, UX designer, community manager, or support professional who cares about content and communication, we want to hear from you!

We plan to launch our CFP in early June and have it last until sometime until mid-August. Get started coming up with ideas for the conference now.

Tickets

Tickets will officially go on sale in May 2021. We will announce ticket prices soon, so that you can start planning your budget. As with the previous years, we have tiered pricing to make it fair for everyone.

As always, we keep ticket prices low so that it is accessible to the widest range of people possible. However, if you can’t afford these prices and still wish to attend, we will bringing our Opportunity Grants program back again this year.

Sponsorship

We are planning to do similar sponsorship levels again this year as last year. In addition to the regular sponsorship levels, we have additional ways to sponsor our online events. See our sponsorship prospectus for all the options.

CFP update and grant program reminder

The last few weeks have been pretty rough on those of us who are in the US. Knowing that, we have made the decision to extend our CFP deadline by a week in order to give you more time to get proposals in. We’d love to see some new voices in the program this year, and we hope that prerecorded talks and fewer timezone restrictions makes that possible.

CFP deadline extended to February 1st

Check out the Call for Proposals page for more details about what we are looking for. Especially if you’ve not been able to attend due to travel logistics, or if you’ve not spoken before we’d love to hear your voice. The virtual conference format means you can speak from anywhere, though it’s ideal if you can be online and present around your talk slot in Pacific Time.

Submit your talk proposals by February 1st, If accepted, we’ll ask you to put together a 30 min talk video by the end of March. And if you already have an idea but you’re having a hard time getting your proposal to come together, you can always ask for feedback on the Write the Docs Slack. The community is there to help!

We’ll be reviewing all the talk proposals next month, and will be contacting everyone who submitted a proposal by February 15, 2021.

Grant program reminder

We updated our grant program application to take into account the virtual format of the event. We’re excited to be able to offer free tickets to a larger number of people this year, since there are now minimal other costs to attend the event.

CFP Reminder, Tickets on Sale, Grant Program

Happy New Year, documentarians!

As we get ready to start the year, we’d like to remind you that the call for proposals will be open until January 10th, and to announce that the tickets for the conference are officially on sale. Read on for more details.

Submit your talk by January 10th

There are still a few days left to submit your proposal! Check out the Call for Proposals page for more details about what we are looking for.

And if you already have an idea but you’re having a hard time getting your proposal to come together, you can always ask for feedback on the Write the Docs Slack. The community is there to help!

We’ll be reviewing all the talk proposals during this month, and will be contacting everyone who submitted a proposal by January 30, 2020.

Get your ticket for the conference

The Portland conference will be returning to the Crystal Ballroom on May 3-5, 2020. The full event website is live, with some preliminary details, and we’ll be filling in more as it gets closer. We’re already excited to see what this year has in store!

If you’re excited too, go ahead and register for your ticket now! For the past several years the conference has sold out, so we highly recommend buying early and reserving your spot.

Please make sure to register for your ticket before you book your travel! We cannot be responsible for any non-refundable travel costs, and if we reach capacity at the venue before you register, we cannot guarantee a spot for you, even if you booked your travel.

And for those of you who were wondering about a potential East Coast conference: We’re currently discussing details about potential cities and venues, and we will announce whether the conference will happen this year as soon as possible.

Grant program

In previous years, we ran various informal programs for speaker travel assistance and diversity tickets. This year we decided to consolidate and formalize these into a unified grant program for anyone who might need assistance to attend the conference.

The grant policy will be submitted for community review through our new Write the Docs Enhancement Proposal (WEP) system, and will include information about selection criteria and other related processes. Stay tuned for more details.
